In the middle of closing a $143,000 above reserve home sale, real estate agent Daniel O’Regan swallowed a fly! Naturally, the man was left spluttering and coughing during the auction.
He stated in his interview, “I could feel it squirming at the back of the throat and I thought ‘geez this thing’s going to come out of my nose’. It was a pretty average 30 seconds.”
An audio recording of the action was even captured.
Mr. O’Regan can be heard encouraging the crowd to bid on the property he was selling. All of that were forgotten, however, when the fly decided to go spelunking inside the agent’s mouth.
“Once my hammer hits the contract … (cough) … I just swallowed a fly. I’ve legitimately just swallowed a fly. It’s going to come out my nose.”
Hilarity ensued.
Rethinking Traditional Real Estate Agencies
For many property investors in Australia, the past few years was a dream come true. Money was cheap as banks became less strict with lending. The housing markets were also red-hot, especially in Melbourne and Sydney. Not to mention, there was a shortage of supply that created the ideal situation for a booming property market.
But as the conditions that drove a dramatic growth slowly cools down, the situation is about to change. This isn’t necessarily bad news as it offers a measure of relief to both regulators and homebuyers who were struggling to keep up with the breakneck run since 2016.
As the country transitions to the next stage of the property cycle, investors should learn to position themselves strategically. For this, contacting a real estate agent in Melbourne might be the first thing that comes to mind.
While there are many real estate agents who do their jobs really well and they can be a huge help to homebuyers, what if you simply want a more convenient and personalised approach to building a house? What if you don’t want to be bothered by going to auctions or doing house visits. Perhaps you don’t have the time to coordinate and communicate with real estate agencies (or fly-swallowing agents)?
Fortunately, modern technology can now make things easier for you. No need to deal with agents if you don’t want to. You can simply research house builds on your own! You can even get in touch with the right builders and contractors without too much effort.
