Suburb Property Profile: Airds, NSW 2560

Set right next to the Georges River, the suburb of Airds fully embraces what nature has to offer and is around 60km south-west of the Sydney Central Business District. This homely town was given its name by Governor Lachlan Macquarie after his wife’s Scottish family estate. It is best known for being the central point for numerous natural parks and reserves. Away from the city rush and confined spaces, this New South Wales suburb is placed right amongst lush greenery and has flourished to predominantly become a residential area following the Airds Bradbury Renewal Project. Here is our guide to the area!

The Neighbours

Part of the City of Campbelltown, the population count has reached just around 3,000 residents and has accumulated 2,000 private dwellings. The progressive suburb has mainly been built by Housing NSW attracting more people to move in and settle down. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has calculated around 715 families with children under 18 years of age accounting for about 36% of the total population. On the other hand, the 30 to 50-year old age group makes up 22% with the median age being 30 years old.

The School Run

The town of Airds brings students and families accessible schools that cater to all different year levels. The Dorchester School, Briar Road Public School and Airds High School are all situated right in the town centre and are a manageable walking distance from home. Pre-schoolers can be enrolled to the KU Briar Cottage Preschool or the Oorunga Wandarrah MACS Centre Kindergarten. For even more options, the Sherwood Hills Christian School, the Bradbury Public School, Woodland Road Public School and St Patrick’s College Campbelltown are all an easy drive of under 5 minutes. Parents and students can choose according to their preferences from an even wider range of schools located in the suburbs of Campbelltown and Ruse next door. Tertiary students won’t have to travel a long distance with a Campbelltown campus for both the Western Sydney University and TAFE NSW.

The Commute

The nearby train stations are the Campbelltown Station and the Macarthur Station with both being a convenient 10-minute drive. The whole journey to the CBD takes passengers about an hour and 10 minutes following the T8 line. Alternatively, it is an hour drive to the city with a large part of the area being serviced by the Campbelltown Road and the M31 Highway.

Retail Therapy

When it comes to shopping, there are loads of local stores to choose from within the vicinity. Neighbouring suburbs offer up the Bradbury Shopping Village, Glen Alpine Shopping Centre, Hoddle Avenue, Marketfair at Campbelltown and the Rosemeadow Marketplace for fresh produce. The Campbelltown mall brings a range of department stores and dining options for shoppers to make the most of.
