Beginning with a population of 212 people from its origins in the 19th century, to an astounding 16,531 residents as of the 2016 Census, Lilydale is a quick-growing suburb home to many diverse types of individuals. Transportation

About an hour away from the CBD, the suburb is home to the conveniently named Lilydale Train Line. The line runs through other popular stations such as Croydon, Ringwood, Blackburn, Box Hill, and the City Loop. In addition, the Maroondah Highway is readily accessible and convenient, as it is adjacent to the suburb.

As mentioned before, the suburb is known as the gateway to both the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley. it is also home to the iconic Warburton rail trail – this 38km recreation trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders follows the path oh the historic railway line.
