Just 20 kilometres north of Perth’s Central Business District, Madeley is a suburb highly recognised for its market gardening activity in the 1990s. It is now recognised as one of the suburbs in Western Australia that has been completely revamped from a formerly rural area to a growing property development centre.
The Neighbours
Previously a part of the Landsdale suburb, Madeley has become its own place and a part of the City of Wanneroo. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has calculated the population to be around 6,084 people, with the median age being 36 years old. For the 0 to 14 age group, they make up 22% of the population. Meanwhile. the 65 years and older age group accounted for 15% of the total population. The amount of families totals to about 1 673 and private dwellings reaching 2,274 properties.
The School Run
For students and families, there are a number of schools that are easily accessible from within the vicinity and around neighbouring suburbs such as, Darch and Kingsley. The Madeley Primary School and Goodstart Early Learning are popular choices for residents. There also education centres that accept students for both primary and secondary such as, Kingsway Christian College and The Montessori School with both being less than a 5-minute drive away.
The Commute
When commuting from Madeley, there a number of train stations close by to choose from that run along the Transperth network. From the city centre, the Greenwood train station is a quick 8-minute drive while the Whitfords train station is also a short 9-minute drive. The area is serviced by the Wanneroo Road towards the west and the Gnangara Road to the north. The journey to the CBD is a manageable 20 to 25-minute drive, along the Mitchell Freeway.
Retail Therapy
The Kingsway City Shopping Centre on Wanneroo Road is only 3-minutes away and is the central hub with over 70 stores provided for residents. Similarly, the Darch Plaza on Kingsway Road is a popular alternative option being a 3-minute drive as well. There are also a handful of restaurants to grab a meal from such as the Enterprise and Innovations Lunch Bar along Excellence and Inspiration Drive.
What’s Going On
Madeley is known to pay homage to its rural history and has delivered local landmarks and parks for visitors to openly explore the outdoors. The Cheltondale and Dinosaur Park provide the open space for a great day out. The Acclaim Kingsway Tourist Park, along with the Kingsway Park and Botanic Garden, offers the ultimate experience and recreational activities for the whole family to enjoy. The upcoming Winter Planting event on the 9th of June is a free opportunity for the whole community to get together and celebrate the environment.
