Suburb Profile: Mickleham VIC 3064

Regarded as Australia’s fastest-growing suburb, Mickleham is making a name for itself and can be found 32 kilometres north of Melbourne’s Central Business District. This booming suburb is known for its stunning nature reserves, being the home of the Mount Ridley Nature Conservation Reserve and also having popular wedding venues, such as the Marnong Estate.

Location Demographics


The population of Mickleham is at around 3,142 residents with estimates for dwellings to reach around 8,000 in 2026 from the current 1,000. With around 887 families, children aged 0 to 14 years old account for about 22.7% of the total population. The median age is 30 years old with 55% of the population in a registered marriage. As a rapidly growing suburb in the City of Hume, it has become the ideal place to begin a new home and raise a family.

Travel & Infrastructure


Depending on which is more accessible, passengers are able to choose between Craigieburn or Donnybrook train station for public transport as it’s just a short 10 to 15-minute drive. The journey to the city is an easy 45-minute drive along the M2 freeway and a similar travel time of 45 minutes on the Craigieburn line. The Merrifield Connect bus services have recently been launched to provide services to stations, schools and shops.

There is a range of schools to choose from within the vicinity and from neighbouring towns. As one of the first schools to be established in the area, Mickleham Primary School is a popular choice along with Hume Anglican Grammar and Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School. If parents were to opt for a Prep to Year 12 institution, the Mount Ridley College is an available option. High schoolers can also decide to attend Kolbe Catholic College, only 10 minutes away from the town centre. The Happy Hippo Kindergartens and Childcare, Kool Kidz Childcare and the Niño Early Learning Adventures are a few of the options to consider for preschoolers.

All within a quick driving distance, residents of Mickleham have a wide variety of stores to pick and choose from. The Craigieburn Central and Stockland Highlands brings a selection of stores to the table to satisfy shoppers’ needs. Just further along north, the Greenvale Shopping centre hosts over 26 specialty stores for buyers to enjoy.

As mentioned previously, the Marnong Estate is quite a well-known destination for its luxury accommodation, vineyard and breathtaking views over the Macedon Ranges and the Deep Creek Gorge. The Buddhist temple named, Daham Niketanaya, is also another iconic place that invites visitors to come in and have a rest stop. As a suburb renowned for its farmland, a weekly Saturday farmers’ market is held for all to attend.
