The South Australia suburb of Northgate is situated just 12km north-east of Adelaide’s Central Business District and just 10 minutes away from the Adelaide City Council. The suburb was created when renaming a portion of the Northfield suburb during June 2000. It is best known for bringing an accessible natural environment with its local parks and recreation, despite being quite close to the city. It is home to the Butler Grove Reserve, Northgate Reserve and Vickers Vimy Reserve.

The Neighbours
The tight-knit community is made up of only 6,230 residents and continues to multiply with more people making the most of its prime location. Part of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, it has brought around 2,540 private dwellings with about 1,720 families settling in the area. Based on the results from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the ratio is slightly skewed towards females with the median age being 33 years old. Currently, the majority of the population is shaped by the 25 to 40-year old demographic at 30% while the under 18 age group make up around 25%.
The School Run
For students, there are a number of schools available in the vicinity and the neighbouring suburbs. Within walking distance from the town centre, Cedar College is a popular choice for residents, which caters from preschool to Year 12 and located on Fosters Road. The Northgate Child Care Centre and Kindergarten takes care of younger students and is an easy 2-minute drive or a 7-minute walk from Cedar College, creating an easy drop-off for parents. In addition, the Hillcrest Primary School and Northfield Primary school are extra options to choose from along with the Rept Football Academy and Heritage College right next door at the suburb of Oakden. Tertiary students are also taken care of with the University of Adelaide close by.
The Commute
Passengers are offered the O-Bahn Busway services by Adelaide Metro. It is part of the bus rapid transit system that links the north-eastern suburbs to the Adelaide city centre. The journey time takes around 25 minutes, including three interchanges at Klemzig, Paradise and Tea Tree Plaza. It takes drivers a manageable 20-minute drive to the CBD and are serviced by major highways such as Grand Junction Road and Hampstead Road with both connecting onto several arterial roads.
Retail Therapy
The Northgate Shopping Centre is the main hub for shoppers’ needs with stores, take-out places and groceries found on Folland Avenue which is just 2 minutes away from the town centre. Renowned as being Australia’s first pedestrianised mall, the Rundle Mall is an alternative option offering the city’s top brands and is a quick 18-minute drive.

The town carefully weaves the intricate city life and the great outdoors neatly together. Visitors and families can make the most of their stay by taking advantage of South Australia’s iconic spots being right at their doorstep. The Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide Zoo, Botanic Park and Central Market are all located under 25 minutes away from the town centre. Closer to home, locals can get together at the Community and Sports Club, Cedar College Sports Centre and Waterford Circuit Tennis Courts. The Walkey Heights Walking Trail also provides the perfect opportunity for family and friends to enjoy a day out hiking.
