Suburb Profile: Rouse Hill NSW 2155

The suburb of Rouse Hill provides a little getaway from the city rush as its located 43 kilometres north-west of Sydney’s central business district. Found within the renowned state of New South Wales, this suburb was originally named the Village of Aberdour in the 1800s and recognised for its heritage as the place to have welcomed the first ferry service called Rose Hill Packet. It is highly regarded for its rich history and for its prosperous town centre.

The Neighbours
Rouse Hill is under both the Hills Shire and as well as the City of Blacktown Council. The total population was calculated to reach around 8,000 people with a fairly even ratio of males and females, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The median age is 34 years old with a total of 2,081 families in the area. Individuals aged between 0 to 19 years of age make up about 35% while the 30 to 50-year-old age group account for 33% of the total number of residents.

The School Run
There are a handful of schools that have been established to accommodate the rapidly growing amount of families and residents. Within the vicinity, the Rouse Hill Public School, Rouse Hill Anglican College and Rouse Hill High school are popular choices as they are all a quick 5 to 15-minute drive from the city centre. For university students, the Western Sydney University Nirimba Campus is 15 minutes by car while the Parramatta Campus is only 25 minutes.

 The Commute
Opened in May 2019, the brand-new Rouse Hill Station has become a new addition to the Sydney Metro and has been built as part of the elevated Skytrain route. It is located just directly outside the town centre with an estimated journey of an hour to the city. Bus services offer an alternative method of transport with Hillsbus taking passengers to North Sydney, Parramatta, Macquarie Park and Castle Hill whilst Busways provides services to Blacktown and Riverstone.

Retail Therapy
For all things shopping-related, the flourishing Rouse Hill Town Centre is the main stop with a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces that capture a proper town square. There are around 245 stores and services available that range from major retailers, cafes and entertainment venues. Just 20 to 25 minutes away, the Castle Towers shopping centre and Westpoint Blacktown shopping centre provide even more shops from recent redevelopments and expansions.

What’s Going On
There are a few heritage-listed sites that can be found throughout drawing tourists and local travellers such as the Hunting Lodge and Royal Oak Inn. In addition, the Rouse Hill House and Farm are one of the oldest properties in Australia that can still be visited today. There is never a dull moment with multiple events and community workshops happening at the Town Centre. Throughout the winter season, an upcoming ice rink will be built at Market Square for residents of all ages to enjoy. There is also a free barbeque every fortnight for the young people of the community to get together and free fitness classes for everybody to join in.
