The Neighbours

The age distribution of the suburb is only slightly above the national average, with recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics listing the median age of residents as 32 years. Of the approximate 10,500 residents, children aged 0-14 comprise 24.9%, while young people aged 15-29 account for 21.7% of the population. Given the ongoing development of several apartment complexes and housing estates, it is anticipated that young families and professionals chasing larger, yet more affordable homes will continue to flock to the area.

The Commute

The suburb is largely serviced by Cowpasture Road and Fifteenth Avenue, both of which connect the area to the Sydney CBD via the Westlink Motorway. While travel via this route is an approximately 50-minute journey, transport via rail from the nearby stations of Leppington and Edmonson Park averages an only slightly longer 75 minutes on the Inner West and Leppington line.

The School Run

West Hoxton and its surrounding suburbs host a number of highly regarded public and private schools, including Greenway Park Public School and Clancy Catholic College. MindChamps Early Learning Centre, along with a number of other kindergarten and childcare facilities, is conveniently located within the vicinity of the major school and shopping districts. Travel to The University of Sydney takes less than an hour, while the Miller campus of TAFE NSW is slightly closer at only 10 minutes away.

Retail Therapy

Residents have access to the smaller and more local shops of Carnes Hill Marketplace and also the larger selection of retail, business and civic facilities offered at the Crossroads Homemaker Centre and the Valley Plaza. Westfield Sydney and Pitt Street Mall are both less than an hour away and offer a more unique mix of boutique and popular chain stores, alongside a wide variety of casual and fine-dining options.

What’s Going On?

West Hoxton and its surrounding suburbs have plenty of options when it comes to keeping active and entertaining the whole family. Shale Hills, in particular, is a favourite of locals, offering plenty of space for the kids and the perfect picnic setting! With its large fields and numerous sporting facilities, the park provides a tranquil space for activity and leisure away from the fast pace of city life.

Since the suburb is well-known for its sprawling green acres and blends of rural and suburban elements, it is perhaps unsurprising that it is closely situated to a number of highly regarded golf courses. The nearby courses of Cabramatta and Liverpool gift avid golfers with picturesque views of the surrounding scenery as well as on-site golfing shops and venues for private and corporate functions.
