We have all heard the cliche saying before… it’s all about location, location, location. There is nothing more important than the location of your new house. Everyone has their own personal choices and factors that they like to consider when it comes to picking a location – whether it be the cost of the property, wanting to be closer to other family members, proximity to work, good schooling, the community, closeness to public transport and shopping, etc.
You may think a neighbourhood looks beautiful, however, it can turn out to be a terrible choice if you don’t do your research. To help you make an informed decision, we have put together a list of factors you should consider when looking for a location to build your new house!
IS IT CONVENIENT?
One of the main factors that need to be taken into consideration – is this location convenient? The sorts of things that make a particular location convenient are those that make it easy to get to where you need to be. Think about your life and the rest of your family’s too. What are the major tasks you need to get done every day? Are all the essential amenities you need nearby? If you need to travel far for work and don’t prefer to drive, make sure there is public transport nearby. Whether or not you have children, it is definitely worth checking out the schools in that area. If you have children or are planning a family, look at what the secondary education and universities are like in that area. Think of the long run. Even if the idea may be a long way off, you don’t want to face the expenses of moving again in a few years because circumstances may have changed.
IS IT SAFE?
Moving to a completely new and uncertain location can be challenging. Which is why you need to ensure that the neighbourhood you are considering is safe. Your new home should be a place where you and your family can relax and feel comfortable living in, and not have a certain paranoia of being unsafe. Latest crime statistics are available online for each state and they can usually be accessed through the website of each police force. You should also take into consideration bushfires, flooding and high winds. It will give you peace of mind to know you are in a safe place.
WHAT ARE THE NEIGHBOURS LIKE?
Another factor to consider when finding the perfect location in the neighbourhood is to see what the neighbours are like. You may or may not want to hang out with them, but you want to be surrounded by people that you are comfortable with, who are respectful, understanding and won’t cause any trouble. As daunting as it may be to introduce yourself to neighbours, it is the best way to develop a good relationship with them. Forming these connections can help you if you ever need it. They can tell you the in’s and the out’s of that neighbourhood, give you recommendations, and even help keep an eye on your house if you ever go on a holiday.
