Encompassing what the sunny state of Queensland has to offer, Coomera has been acknowledged as a satellite suburb known for its urban growth and significant real estate development. It is located around 58km south-east of Brisbane’s bustling Central Business District and just 28km north from the coastal suburb of Surfers Paradise. Paying homage to its origins, the name was derived from the Yugambeh word ‘kumera’ which is a species of the wattle plant. Surrounded by Coomera Island and Hope Island, this town brings the ultimate holiday destination and a unique home together.

The Neighbours

The area is a part of the City of Gold Coast with a total population of around 13,300 people that continue to rapidly increase beyond its current size. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has calculated around 4,450 private dwellings, with developments consistently being multiplied to accommodate for more residents. The ratio is slightly skewed towards females who make up 51%, with families and young people being the majority of inhabitants. The median age is 28 years old, with the 20 to 35-year-old demographic making up 25% of the population. There are about 3,460 families who call the place home with children under 18 years old accounting for around 35%.

The School Run

Primary and high school students are able to attend public or private schools that are conveniently right within the local vicinity. The Coomera Anglican College, St Joseph’s College, Coomera Rivers, Coomera Springs and Coomera State Schools are all a quick drive that takes between 5 to 10 minutes, with some being a 20-minute walk. For early education, the Milestone Early Learning, Coomera Playschool and C&K Community Kindergarten are all a short driving distance of under 8 minutes from the town centre. Students taking on further education have easy access to the TAFE Queensland Coomera Campus.

The Commute

Along Railway Reserve, the Coomera Train Station ferries passengers to multiple destinations and is ran by TransLink which caters for all transport services in South East Queensland. The journey time to Brisbane’s city centre takes around an hour via the VLBD route and alternatively takes drivers around 45 minutes. Meanwhile, the BDVL route transports commuters to the Varsity Lakes Station at the Gold Coast in just 20 minutes. The area is mainly serviced by the M1 freeway connecting to other major urban roads and suburbs.

Retail Therapy

The place is filled to the brim with shopping centres for locals to make the most of without having to travel far. To name a few, the Coomera City Centre, Coomera East Shopping Centre, Coomera Square, HomeCo at Upper Coomera are some of the popular choices. The Westfield provides an abundant number of shops along with restaurants, café lounges and a cinema. To add, residents can also visit the Hope Island Central, Sanctuary Cove Shopping Centre or Oxenford Village and shop to their heart’s content.

This vast and thriving space creates the perfect setting for families to enjoy the warm weather and a fun day out without having to book an overseas trip. There are plenty to choose from such as having a meal by the Coomera riverside, watching a game at the Sports Park or embracing your adventurous side at the big theme parks nearby such as Dreamworld, WhiteWater World and Tiger Island. For those opting for a peaceful getaway, the Corymbia and Genesis Parks are also close by.
