Located approximately 24km west of Melbourne's CBD, Deanside sits within the City of Melton. The suburb was only officially gazetted in 2017, carved out of what was previously part of Rockbank and Plumpton as part of an eleven-suburb naming proposal by the council — making it one of the newer additions to Melbourne's western growth corridor. Buyers are drawn here for affordable new housing within easy reach of established Caroline Springs and the city's rail network. Here's our comprehensive guide to the area.

Location Demographics

The population of Deanside sits at 654 according to the 2021 Census. As a newly gazetted suburb still filling in with new estates, the population figure reflects an early stage of development rather than a mature community, and continues to grow as estates such as Deanside Village and Deanside Springs build out. Median weekly household income sits at $2,182.

Travel & Infrastructure

Deanside sits close to two existing train stations: Rockbank station on the Ballarat line, a short drive or a roughly 27-minute walk away, and Caroline Springs station a few minutes further by car. A Mount Atkinson station has also been proposed for the area. The Western Freeway sits nearby, putting Melbourne's CBD around 35 minutes away by car, and local bus routes 456, 461 and 462 service the suburb.

Shopping

Deanside doesn't yet have a shopping centre of its own, though a supermarket is planned for the front of the Deanside Village estate. In the meantime, residents rely on the established retail precincts at nearby Caroline Springs, just a few minutes' drive away, alongside options in Melton.

Schools & Recreation

Deanside Primary School serves the suburb directly, with Rockbank Primary School, Strathulloh Primary School and Springside Primary School also close by. For secondary schooling, Springside West Secondary College and Southern Cross Grammar sit within a short drive, and several of Deanside's newer estates have flagged additional primary schools planned for the area as population grows.

Local Amenities

Green space is a strong feature of Deanside's newer estates — Deanside Village alone sets aside more than 30% of its footprint for parklands, sporting grounds and walking and cycling paths, taking advantage of the Kororoit Creek wetlands that run through the area. As the suburb continues to build out, this open space is expected to expand alongside further housing.
