Justin and Hailey Bieber buy $12 million NYC apartment in Manhattan's West Village

Justin and Hailey Bieber have added another high-profile property to their international portfolio, purchasing a US$12 million apartment in Manhattan's West Village within one of New York City's most architecturally recognised residential buildings.

According to property records first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the couple's new residence spans around 2,800 square feet (260 sqm), comprising four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms and uninterrupted views across the Hudson River through more than 120 feet of floor-to-ceiling glazing.

The apartment sits within 160 Leroy Street, the sculptural 14-storey condominium developed by hotelier and Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager and designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron. The curved concrete and glass building was inspired by the work of legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and has become one of Manhattan's most recognisable contemporary residential addresses.

The residence continues Herzog & de Meuron's minimalist architectural language through a palette of Scandinavian larch timber, wide plank flooring and expansive open-plan living spaces designed to maximise natural light and river views.

A large entertaining space anchors the apartment, complemented by a separate enclosed chef's kitchen fitted with premium Sub-Zero, Wolf, Gaggenau and Miele appliances. The primary suite occupies its own wing overlooking the Hudson River and includes a marble ensuite with heated floors, twin vanities and a freestanding soaking bath. An adjoining room can function as a library, study or additional bedroom, while the remaining bedrooms are positioned at the opposite end of the apartment for additional privacy.

Privacy was also a key consideration in the apartment's design, with a dedicated entrance corridor separating the residence from the building's common hallway.

Residents at 160 Leroy Street have access to an extensive suite of amenities including a 70-foot indoor swimming pool, landscaped courtyard, fitness centre, yoga and Pilates studios, steam room, private garage, resident manager and catering facilities for larger events. The building also includes dedicated family spaces and a children's clubhouse, features likely to appeal to the couple following the arrival of their son, Jack Blues.

The purchase marks the Biebers' first known jointly owned property in New York City, adding to an existing portfolio that includes homes in Beverly Hills, La Quinta and Canada. While they have spent most of their marriage based in Los Angeles, New York has played a significant role in their relationship, with Hailey previously living in Brooklyn before the couple married.

The West Village remains one of Manhattan's most tightly held residential neighbourhoods, attracting a long list of celebrity residents over the years including Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Liv Tyler and Daniel Radcliffe. The area has also long been associated with Taylor Swift, whose former Cornelia Street home became the inspiration for one of her best-known songs.

For Herzog & de Meuron, 160 Leroy Street continues to stand as one of the firm's defining residential projects in New York, blending sculptural architecture with riverfront living in one of the city's most sought-after neighbourhoods. Justin and Hailey Bieber's purchase adds another high-profile owner to a building already regarded as one of Manhattan's architectural landmarks.
