Located approximately 35km west of Melbourne's CBD, Weir Views sits within the City of Melton, just south of the city of Melton itself. The suburb was gazetted in 2017 as part of an eleven-suburb naming proposal by the council, carved out of what was previously part of Melton South. It sits along the Werribee River, giving new estates here direct access to riverside walking tracks alongside their new-build convenience. Here's our comprehensive guide to the area.

Location Demographics

The population of Weir Views sits at 4,348 according to the 2021 Census, and continues to grow rapidly as new residential estates such as Opalia build out. Households are primarily couples with children, and the predominant age group is 0–9, reflecting the suburb's young-family, new-estate character.

Travel & Infrastructure

Weir Views is unusually well served by rail for a new-build suburb, sitting close to both Melton and Melton South train stations — some parts of the suburb are just a few minutes' drive or a short walk from one or the other. Freeway access is available either through Melton South or via Rockbank along Greigs Road, giving residents a choice of routes toward Melbourne's CBD.

Shopping

Opalia Plaza, within the Opalia estate, anchors local shopping with a Woolworths supermarket, Chemist Warehouse, McDonald's, KFC and a range of specialty stores, cafes and medical and childcare facilities. For bigger shopping trips, central Melton is a short drive away.

Schools & Recreation

Weir Views has a genuine choice of schools nearby, including Melton South Primary School, Staughton College and Al Iman College within walking or short driving distance of the Opalia estate. St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School, a branch of St Anthony's of Padua Catholic Primary School, serves the Exford Waters estate, and further government primary schools have been approved for the area as it continues to grow.

Local Amenities

New estates across Weir Views — including Opalia, Exford Waters, Seventh Bend and Toolern Waters — have built in generous open space, with parks, playgrounds and connecting pathways woven through each community. The Werribee River runs alongside the suburb, giving residents walking trails on their doorstep, and two proposed sporting ovals are planned to add further recreation space as the area matures. A new Melton hospital, backed by more than $900 million in state funding and due for completion by 2029, is also planned nearby.
