Moving into a New House Checklist

After the big move is over and you’ve fully transferred all your belongings, there’s a sense of relief and excitement for a new chapter. However, the move is only part of the process as embracing a different place also means welcoming a new to-do list. Although it may be tempting to relax rather than work, this is to ensure you are able to set yourself up properly and fully prepared in the long-run. Here are a few steps that outline what needs to get done on the first day of moving into a new house!

Moving Into a new house

1. Catch Your Breath
It is easy to become overwhelmed after the tedious moving process and planning out all that is left to be done or unpacked. Therefore, the simple task of taking a moment to appreciate the new living space that you have achieved can be quickly overlooked. It is a good idea to take a walk through the house, visualising its potential and reminding yourself of its best features. An important part is taking in the view when looking outside and savouring the beauty of the entire property. It is a memorable time and a great opportunity to take photos with loved ones and explore the neighbourhood.

2. Neat and Tidy
As you enter a new area, it is all about getting to know the space and making sure your house is in its best condition. The best way to familiarise yourself when moving into a new home is through personally organising and cleaning the property. It would be ideal to tidy every nook and cranny before all the moving boxes arrive and are scattered. Although you’re able to still tidy up when the moving truck arrives, stay one step ahead by bringing along cleaning products to avoid the difficulty of having to go around stacks of boxes.

3. Count It Up
During packing, it’s quite helpful to create lists and labels regarding the content for each box. As a result, the unpacking stage runs more smoothly having a reference where you’re able to double check if anything has gone missing during the move. The sooner it is dealt with, the more likely you’ll be able to find it or give the movers a call straight away.

4. Day One
A strategic way to avoid confusion is making a ‘Day One’ box or bag where all your immediate belongings can be stored and easily accessed. It is a great assistance for making moving into a new house more bearable. The items that can be placed in this particular box can include toiletries, beddings, essential paperwork, towels and a change of clothes. This will save time from making emergency trips to the store while unloading everything else.

5. Bed & Bath
It may not come as a surprise that the first rooms to be used when moving into a new house are the bedroom and the bathroom. It would be a good choice to prioritise fixing up these rooms first.

6. Quality Time
The effort of settling into a new place can be stressful for yourself and as well as for both children and pets. This transition period can be a time to make sure they’ve got all they need while also finding the time to bond over dinner or by getting to know the new environment together.
