Guest Bedroom Ideas For New Home

When deciding to design the guest bedroom in your home, you want to aim for it to be a warm and welcoming space. It will make a difference if they have space to complete tasks and access to everything they need during their stay. We have a few guest bedroom ideas that should leave your visitors feeling well rested and comfortable in your home.

Colours for Comfort

It is a great idea to decorate your guest bedroom with warm, comforting tones. Particularly if the room has smaller windows, as the warm, deeper tones will create depth and variation to the room as light changes throughout the day. Warm tones will encourage a sense of comfort in the guest room while your visitors are away from the comfort of their own bedroom space.
Avoid painting with harsh whites – choose warm whites that have yellow, brown or red undertones. Whites with blue undertones can also create a calm, soothing effect, pairing well with a dark gray-blue feature wall that can be broken up well with lighting or art that contrasts the dark feature.

The bed will be the feature in your guest room so consider the colour of the bedspread – warm dark tones wrap you up with greater comfort than brighter hues. If you want a pop of colour consider dulled red or greens to decorate the space.

A Small Workspace

Obviously it is difficult to provide a comfortable space to sleep, as well as a workspace for a visitor in one room – but they will appreciate having a small table or desk that will allow them to sit books or computers for the length of their stay in your home. It gives them a place to get work done in privacy. Save money by doubling this workspace as a side table replacement where you can also place bedside lighting. Or perhaps a small desk space on wheels that can be moved around to their leisure to suit their needs. Small, lightweight computer desks can be found for under $50 at Officeworks and similar retailers.

Access to Linen

A smart guest bedroom idea is to provide them with easy access to towels and linen in their room. Place a basket near their bedside or near the wardrobe that is deep enough to keep things neat and folded. Having access to extra blankets on cold nights as well as towels on arrival will make them feel comfortable and not needing to ask or go looking. IKEA sells storage boxes and baskets for low prices – look towards darker colours that appear to take up less space in a room.

Decor

When choosing decor for your guest room try and choose simply, but add a touch of personalisation. This could include adding books or magazines that you know they will like for their own leisure. Make sure that the room has a small mirror that your guest can use for themselves, this will help them feel more comfortable if they have to share your bathroom. Also, choose warm lights for the room – perhaps consider lamps with multiple brightness settings. A reading lamp is also a smart addition to accommodate for any work or reading done at night.

Lastly, a space can always be spruced up with greenery and flora. Whether it be a trailing plant or a flower clipping from the garden, it is a lovely way to add a personal touch to the room for low cost.
