The Neighbours
Hawthorn is home to around 23,500 residents and is increasing, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in the year 2016. The median age is 32 years old with about 5,370 families settling in the area. The 20 to 34-year-old age group make up 37.3 per cent of the total population while the children aged from 0 to 14 years old account for the 13 per cent. With all the private dwellings calculated to 11,550, the property market is continuing to grow rapidly.

The School Run
The large handful of students in the vicinity can be attributed to the nearby and easily accessible Swinburne University Hawthorn Campus on John Street that is also regarded as one of Melbourne’s top universities. Students and staff won’t have to worry about looking for parking as it is a quick 7-minute walk from the city centre. The Erasmus Primary School, Alia College, Bialik College, Hawthorn West Primary School and Glenferrie Primary School are only some of the handful of schools for families to consider.

The Commute
For university students, the Glenferrie Train Station is the main stop as it is an easy 5-minute walk to the campus even during rush hour and can be conveniently reached from all train lines via Richmond Train Station. Alternatively, the Hawthorn Train Station is a 3 -minute drive away or an 11-minute walk from home. There are numerous bus and tram stops along Burwood Road as well as Glenferrie Road.

Retail Therapy
For shoppers, the Glenferrie Centre provides the main stop for popular supermarkets, local stores and produce. Meanwhile, the Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre is only a 7 to 10-minute drive via Burnley Street and hosts even more retail stores. High-end brands are also not too far from Hawthorn with the Emporium just 22 minutes away and filled with an abundant amount of luxury stores.

What’s Going On
As mentioned before, Glenferrie Street is the central point for major restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, lively bars and lounges that create an electric nightlife. Whether it’s getting some breakfast at the Hawthorn Common or grabbing a drink at the Hawthorn Hotel, there’s a place available for any time of the day. When it comes to entertainment, the Lido Cinemas show a mix of commercial and arthouse films as well as a free comedy stand-up night every week. You can also get your creative juices flowing at the Hawthorn Arts Centre that holds several classes and workshops. Tourists and locals often look forward to a visit as the area encompassing the food and art culture that the city of Melbourne is renowned for.
