Suburb Profile: Leppington

Forming part of the City of Liverpool, Leppington is a New South Wales suburb situated approximately 38 km south-west of the Sydney CBD. This developing suburb boasts a number of newly opened, state-of-the-art facilities, and has proven especially popular with young families and retirees seeking a relaxed style of living.

The Neighbours
The age distribution of the suburb is skewed towards a slightly older population at present, with recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics listing the median age of residents as 35 years. Of the approximate 4,000 residents, children aged 0-14 comprise 21.2%, while young people aged 15-29 account for 20% of the population. With the area’s ongoing residential development, it is anticipated that young families and professionals chasing larger, yet more affordable homes will continue to flock to the area.

The Commute
The area is largely serviced by Camden Valley Way and Bringelly Road, both of which connect the suburb to the Sydney CBD via the Western Motorway. While travel via car to the city is an approximate 60-min journey, transport via Sydney Metro takes a slightly longer 75-mins. Leppington and Edmondson Park Railway Stations are both closely located to the main areas of the suburb, with access to several different bus routes also available from there.

The School Run
Leppington and its adjacent suburbs are hosts to a mix of highly regarded public and private primary and secondary schools, including Rossmore Public School and Robert Townson High School. The Grove Academy, along with a number of other early learning and childcare facilities are conveniently located within the vicinity of the major school and shopping districts. Although not situated particularly close to leading universities, travel to Sydney’s city centre is only an hour away. For those more inclined to learn a trade or undertake an apprenticeship, however, Glenfield, Macarthur and Miller campuses of TAFE NSW are all more conveniently located to the suburb.

Retail Therapy
Residents have access to the smaller and more local shops of Willowdale Shopping Centre and also the larger selection of retail, business and civic facilities offered at the Crossroads Homemaker Centre and the Valley Plaza. Westfield Sydney and Pitt Street Mall are both only an hour’s journey from the suburb and provide a more unique mix of boutique and popular chain stores, alongside a wide variety of casual and fine-dining options.

What’s Going On?
Leppington and its surrounding suburbs offer a number of leisure pursuits perfect for the active family! The Australian Botanic Garden in Mount Annan is a particular favourite of locals and visitors alike, with several playgrounds, beautiful gardens and picturesque views of the lake amongst the main attractions. In addition, the Garden boasts a small cafe and a number of walking trails with varying degrees of difficulty. The spacious grounds are perfect for adventurous kids and there’s plenty of room for casual weekend picnics and family gatherings. The natural beauty of the Blue Mountains is also less than an hour away and provides the ideal relaxing day-trip or getaway. With various tours, a huge selection of lookouts to choose from and the popular, quaint towns of Katoomba and Leura to explore, there’s plenty to keep Leppington locals entertained in their leisure time.
