Growth Areas To Look At: Rutherford

Rutherford is a suburb in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. Located within the City of Maitland, the area is home to almost 12,000 residents, according to the 2016 census. This makes it the most well populated suburb in the local government area.

Rutherford is positioned on the banks of the Hunter River, and is just a two hour drive north of Sydney, and 35 minutes from Newcastle Airport.

Transport

The New England Highway passes through Rutherford. This road sees well over 20,000 commuters per day. Completion of the Hunter Expressway in mid 2016 saw traffic largely relieved through the area. This stretch of the highway also supplies a bypass for traffic from Newcastle and Sydney to the upper part of Hunter Valley, New England and further.

Local Amenities

Taking the train from Sydney to Maitland, you will pass by several stunning local vistas along with shopping precincts, a wide mix of restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars. Nearby monthly market, the Maitland Markets, has over 600 stalls to look at, offering the best in local produce, gourmet cuisine and other delicacies.
