Suburb Profile: Schofields

The suburb of Schofields is situated 45 kilometres north-west from Sydney’s Central Business District and sits on the rural-urban fringe, providing the best of both worlds. Its name has been derived from John Schofield who can be traced back purchasing and settling into the land during the 1800s. As it is part of the New South Wales Government’s north-west growth area, it has been expanding rapidly with multiple housing developments underway.

The Neighbours
The area brings around 5,000 individuals to the City of Blacktown, with the median age being 32 years old. Although the population is consistently growing at a steady rate, the male and female ratio remains equal. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has also calculated the under 18’s demographic to account for 30% of the whole population while the 30 to 50-year-old age group make up 33%. Schofields is home to around 1,360 families with an estimate of 1,740 homes established.

The School Run
There are a number of educational facilities within the vicinity including, Schofields Public School, St Joseph’s Primary School, Hambledon Public School and Hopskotch Kindergarten for early year levels. Secondary students have more choices around the local area from suburbs next door including, Riverstone High School, The Ponds High School, Rouse Hill Anglican College and Norwest Christian College which caters from Preschool to Year 12. As they are all a convenient 5 to 10-minute drive away from the town centre, having to go between the suburbs isn’t too stressful during the school rush.

The Commute
Public transport is easily accessible with the Schofields train station being an 8-minute drive or a 30-minute walk from the city centre. It can be found along the North Shore & Western railway line and Cumberland line, with limited services extending from Schofields to Richmond. The area is a 45-minute drive from the city and can be reached via the Westlink M7 and the M2 Hills Motorway. Commuters travelling shorter distances can utilise bus services run by Busways with stops scattered around Schofields Road.

The Riverstone Village shopping centre and Greenway Village are both an easy 10-minute drive, providing a market street filled with specialty stores. The Ponds shopping centre offers over 25 stores along with supermarkets and restaurants. The Rouse Hill town centre brings a modern mall experience while the Westpoint shopping centre at Blacktown is filled to the brim with over 250 shops and entertainment services. Shoppers can also easily stock up with Costco being a short driving distance of 15 minutes.

What’s Going On?
There is no dull moment at Schofields with a tight-knit community and open spaces to feel refreshed. The Bella Vista Farm Park and Featherdale Wildlife Park are every animal lover’s dream, bringing the up-close experience and country feel. You can also welcome the great outdoors and have a splash at the Lake Parramatta Reserve or the Nurragingy Reserve. Families of all ages can enjoy a day out at the Altrove Hilltop Park, Riverbank Park or Lake Edges Park.
