The Neighbours

The age distribution of the suburb is skewed towards a slightly younger population at present, with recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics listing the median age of residents as 32 years. Of the approximate 3,500 residents, children aged 0-14 comprise 26.9%, while young people aged 15-29 account for 18.1% of the population. With the area’s ongoing residential development, it is anticipated that young families and professionals chasing larger, yet more affordable homes will continue to flock to the area.

The Commute

The suburb is largely serviced by Picton Road, which connects the area to Wollongong and the Sydney CBD via the Hume Motorway. While travel via this route is an approximately 67-minute journey, transport via rail from the local station averages an only slightly longer 94 minutes.

The School Run

Wilton and its adjacent suburbs host a variety of highly regarded public and private schools, including Blakeview Primary School and Mark Oliphant College. Bingara Gorge Community Preschool, along with a number of other early learning and childcare facilities, is conveniently located within the vicinity of the major school and shopping districts. Travel to the University of Wollongong is only a short 25-minute journey, while the Wollongong campus of TAFE NSW is similarly close.

Residents have access to the smaller local stores of Wilton Plaza and also the larger selection of retail, business and civic facilities offered at provides at Picton Mall and Tahmoor Town Centre.
