Located less than 20 mins away from Adelaide, the suburb was once inhabited by the Kaurna Aboriginal people on the culturally significant Sturt River. The age distribution of the suburb is lower than the national average, with recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics listing the median age of residents as 35 years. Of the approximate 3,242 people living in Clovelly Park, children aged 0-14 comprise 16.1%, while people aged over 65 accounts for 14.2% of the population.

Transportation

The most common method of transport for commuting to work is via car with 62.6% of the people driving to work. For commuters using public transport, the region is serviced by buses that run within the suburbs. For trains, Clovelly Park Station and Mitchell Park Railway Station run on the Tonsley line between Clovelly Park and Adelaide.

The suburb primarily has public schools, among which Clovelly Park Primary School and Hamilton Secondary College are most favoured by its residents. Other schooling institutions like Westminster School, Sunrise Christian School, and Ascot Park Primary School are located in the Marion suburb. Flinders University in Bedford Park is the closest tertiary education institution to Clovelly Park.

Shopping For The Family

Westfield Marion on Diagonal Road has a majority of big retail, departmental stores, and supermarkets like Woolworths and Aldi. With a variety of specialty stores, cinemas, and an exquisite range of fine dining options, Westfield Marion is one of the largest shopping complexes in South Australia. Park Holme Shopping Centre on Oaklands Road is another convenient choice for residents, famous for its small bakehouses, Coles supermarket, and other specialty stores.

Clovelly Park’s small and homely neighbourhood lends itself to several community recreational centres and parks. Among these, Clovelly Park Community Garden is a space for residents to come together and share their love for gardening beds and fruit trees while growing organic food. Likewise, Graham Watts Reserve on York Avenue is the perfect playground with a range of playground equipment for basketball and softball along with sheltered picnic tables.

A little outside the suburb, O’Halloran Hill Recreation Park attracts tourists and residents alike, for its network of walking trails and horse trails. On the other hand, featuring a coastal walking trail, the Hallet Cove National Park takes you down the lanes of history with its stunning collection of over 1,700 Aboriginal artefacts.
