Suburb Property Profile: Hewett, SA 5118

Situated close to the iconic town of Gawler sits the suburb of Hewett, which welcomes South Australia’s vast land and greenery with open arms. It is located around 55km north-east of Adelaide’s Central Business District, providing the country town experience away from the buzzing city activity. It is best known for establishing a few thriving estates in outer Adelaide and being directly nearby to the Barossa Valley, which is one of Australia’s oldest wine-producing regions. Here is our comprehensive guide to the area:

The Neighbours

This prosperous community is home to only around 3,000 people, which is estimated to increase with more land being developed and released. As part of the Light Regional Council, there are a mix of demographics that continue to grow in the area including singles, retirees and families. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there are about 800 families living in the area and 920 private dwellings that have been built. The median age is 35 years old with around 35% of residents falling into the 40 to 60-year-old age group. Meanwhile, 28% of the population are under 18 years of age.

The School Run

There are plenty of schools on offer for students to attend that are right in the vicinity. Families of all ages can take their pick between Hewett Primary School, Xavier College, Gawler Primary School and the Immanuel Lutheran School. For the young ones just beginning, the Elsie Ey Children’s Centre, Zion Preschool and Gawler East Preschool are also available. For more alternative options, the Gawler Academy of Dance, Ann Shannon Art School and SA Performing Arts Academy bring along a range of extracurricular activities to participate in.

The Commute

There are a couple of train stations that passengers are able to use such as Gawler Central and Gawler Oval Station. Serviced by Adelaide Metro, it takes commuters a journey time of 55 minutes to reach the city centre. There are also a handful of bus stops that are conveniently spread out around Hewett, ferrying residents to surrounding locations. Drivers are able to utilise the Sturt Highway which links onto the Northern Expressway and Gawler Bypass.

Retail Therapy

For shoppers, there are a few choices that are easily accessible and right next door. The Gawler Central, Victory Square and Phoenix Plaza shopping centres all provide a number of brands and stores to select from. There are also a few services and restaurants located along Murray Street. In addition, High Street hosts extra shops and supermarkets.
