Suburb Profile: Ellenbrook WA 6069

Located a mere 21km from the CBD, Ellenbrook is a thriving town in the northeast of Perth within the city of Swan. Despite it’s gazetted location, it is rapidly developing as a self-sustainable city. With a spike in population, Ellenbrook is host to seven villages, each with a different theme which is reflected in the design of the homes and streetscape. Traditional four by two homes still characterise the suburb, making it an idyllic paradise for the modern family.

The Neighbours
Between 2001 and 2011 the population grew dramatically, almost quadrupling in ten years with 16,284 people living in the suburb as of the 2011 Census. This number had further risen by 6,000 in 2016 with the small city thriving amongst a population of 22,000. The median age of the typical resident is calculated to be 30-32, falling just under the nation’s average. The recorded 6,000 families make up 23% of the overall population and pensioners, just a small 8%.

The School Run
The population of the suburb has rapidly grown as each year passes and is estimated to soon be home to 80,000 people in the next ten years. As a result of this inflation, many schools have been developed in the town. The recent number records more than 11 primary and high schools operating with more planned to open as demand increases.

The Commute
The estimated travel time into the hustle and bustle of Perth’s CBD will set you back approximately 41 minutes by car, along the Tonkin Hwy. The distance is slightly shorter for those who are avid travellers, with the main airport just a short 32-minute drive via Swan Rd. Plans are in the works to open a new $8.5m rail link in Ellenbrook in 2022 which will take commuters directly into the city. For now, residents are able to use several bus services that will link them to neighbouring stations, making the overall commute approximately an hour to reach the CBD.

Retail Therapy
Developers are met with annual demands as the population continues to increase. The added value of shops, restaurants, playgrounds and sporting grounds are consistently being opened within the town, making the suburb lively and entertaining for residents and visitors. A major central shopping precinct is host to over 50 stores, including eateries, retailers and banks. The main shopping hub is set to receive a hefty expansion that will see plans for a cinema as well as 20 new speciality stores.

What’s Going On?
The suburb is easily accessible to the idyllic Swan Valley wine region, which sits literally at the end of Gnangara Road. If the way to your heart is through your stomach, then the town’s countless restaurants offering a wide spread of cuisine choices will make you fall in love. Beat the summer heat at the local water park or search for treasure at the pirate-themed playground perfect for families on a Sunday afternoon.
