Campbelltown is a suburb in the metropolitan region of Sydney, New South Wales. It is located in Greater Western Sydney, 50km south-west of Sydney’s CBD.

Transport

Campbelltown is situated on the main road and railway links from Sydney to the South-west. While the Hume highway links Campbelltown north to Liverpool, Sydney Airport, and also Sydney’s CBD.

Both Campbelltown station and Macarthur station are on the Airport and South Line of the Sydney Trains network.

Not only serviced by train line, the region is also well serviced by buses. ‘Busabout’ provides various services from Campbelltown train station to just about all surrounding suburbs. While interline offers a service from Campbelltown to Glenfield.

Commercial Amenities

The main commercial development includes Campbelltown’s own town centre, the Queen street shopping strip, Campbelltown mall, as well as council chambers and a large number of historic buildings. The area’s main residential grounds are to the south and east of the town centre.

To the south-west of the area lies Macarthur railway station, which includes the University of Western Sydney and Macarthur Square – a grand shopping centre, which contains an outdoor entertainment and restaurant precinct.

Population

The 2016 census recorded a suburb population of 12,566 people. The region’s population is forecast to reach 167,468 by late 2018, and then 275,778 by 2036. This forecast is a direct reflection of the growth and development the area is set to see within the coming years. Community groups, businesses, education and alike are the driving forces of these figures.

Education

Western Sydney University has a Campbelltown Campus, which serves as its premier university. There are also 26 other primary and secondary schools throughout the region.

Arts and Other Culture

Campbelltown is well renowned for its exciting and transcendent arts scene. The Campbelltown Arts Centre is situated slightly south of the main town centre. It features an 180 seat performance area, art galleries and other workspaces. Within its vicinity is a Japanese garden and teahouse, a gift from Japan.

Additionally, an annual parade, flowing through Queen Street, is held every November, playing host to children-friendly rides and other entertainment.

Campbelltown hosts two local radio stations, 2MCR and C91.3FM, and also two local print media stations.

Campbelltown has a enormous sporting culture. The suburb’s most popular sports include Rugby League, Cricket, Soccer and Australian Rules Football. The area’s premier sports team, the West Tigers, are part of the NRL competition, and play many of their home games at Campbelltown Stadium in surrounding area Leumeah.
